Chopard - sustainable luxury
As "reliable as a Swiss watch" is the ultimate compliment one can pay to any artisan, whether he makes watches or jewelry or perfume, implying as it does an attention to detail and the patience to fine tune everything by hand until all parts work in perfect unison. Chopard’s reputation for artisanship began when Louis-Ulysse Chopard founded his own fine jewelry and watch making business in 1860 in a small Swiss village by the name of Sonvillier.
Chopard's initial focus was on precision timepieces, created by hand in the Swiss tradition. Quickly gaining a reputation for quality, originality, and precision, the business expanded, both geographically, to Geneva, and into other areas of artisanship, such as fine fragrance. With the brand’s 150th anniversary in 2010, Chopard began to focus more and more on sustainability, using only fair-trade gold mined by small mining cooperatives in Latin America in its exquisite watches and jewelry.
With sustainable luxury as its guiding ethos, Chopard began developing, in 2016, two exclusive niche perfume collections that would offer customers a sort of haute couture fragrance experience in line with the brand’s top-line jewels, watches, and timepieces. In partnership with Eco-Age and Firmenich, Chopard worked with master perfumer Alberto Morillas to complete and publish these special collections, the first, The Gardens of the Tropics Collection being launched in 2017, and the second, The Gardens of Paradise Collection launched in 2018.
