THE COLOUR OF SCENT - Smell colours, see scents. . . 

 
 
For the fragrances of the Maison diptyque, raw materials are what pigments mean for a painter's color palette. Now five of the emblematic Eaux de Toilettes have been colourfully staged according to the raw materials used for their composition: Do Son, Eau de Sens, L'Ombre dans l'Eau, Philosykos and Tam Dao. These are each available in a limited edition of 30ml. 
 
 
THE LIMITED EDITION 
 
It often happens that artists "smell" a color, as if the image in their head forms a scent. A strong red radiates the smell of ripe cherries, a bright purple seems to smell of violets. . . In the same way, perfumers naturally associate a fragrance nuance with a particular hue. This summer, diptyque has been inspired by this principle and has assigned matching colours to the Maison's five emblematic fragrances, always based on the shade corresponding to the main ingredient of each of the five compositions: 
 
For L'Ombre dans l'Eau an intense pink was used, which stands for fruity, tangy rose, which plays the leading role here. 
 
 
THE FRAGRANCE 
 
Freshly picked roses, cassis bud, petitgrain and cassis leaf 
 
A beautiful fragrance that tells the story of daydreams, a quiet river, a summer slumber under a weeping willow. Inspired by the random combination of rose petals and black currants, whose common aromas harmonized so surprisingly and fascinatingly that the creators of diptyque wanted to capture all the dimensions of this passionate togetherness: the herbaceousness of the black currant leaves, the fruity acidic accents of their buds and the floral intensity of the rose. A natural moment of pleasure!
 
 
THE DESIGN 
 
In order to express this interplay even more intensively, the colouring also appears on the packaging, with a colour-intensive portrait of the respective fragrance. 
Each ingredient is shown as it occurs naturally in a garden or landscape. For L'Ombre dans l'Eau, freshly picked roses were staged in a play of motifs and colours that illustrate the unique esprit of this iconic Maison diptyque fragrance. Diptyque the History The Diptyque story began in Paris, at 34 Boulevard St-Germain, with three friends driven by the same creative passion. Christiane Gautrot, interior decorator, Desmond Knox-Leet, painter, and Yves Coueslant, theatre administrator and set designer. Previously designing fabrics and wallpaper for Liberty and Sanderson, together they teamed up in 1961 and opened a store at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain to showcase their fabric designs. With their unique taste, they gradually transformed the store into a world of its own. A chic bazaar offering a fascinating variety of unexpected items, unique to Paris, which the trio brought back from their travels. “Merchants of everything”, their choices had no limits other than their insatiable curiosity and keen sense of beauty. In 1963, two years after they had opened, the house of Diptyque introduced its first scented candle, Hawthorn that would be followed by many others including Cinnamon and Tea. A dazzling start to an extensive repertory of fragrances, all bearing the iconic black lettering on the renowned oval label. Diptyque’s fragrance repertory is an ode to nature and fine ingredients. Seemingly simple, they are in reality a sophisticated reinvention of nature. Each fragrance expresses a moment, an exquisite place: a field in Provence in summer, a warm evening with the family at home, a garden in full bloom covered with morning dew. The luxury perfumed candles are handcrafted in 12 separate steps. Each candle has its own composition of wax and wick to ensure a fragrance that remains true to itself, burning for more than 60 hours.
