Philippe Starck is an internationally-celebrated French creator, designer and architect with a range of popular creations, such as the famous Alessi lemon squeezer. In 2016, he created the first three fragrances for his perfume line "Peau", a collection whose concept provides a rare glimpse into the internal world of this storied designer.
Starck’s entry into the world of fragrance has an air of inevitability about it, given that he was raised in the heady atmosphere of his own mother’s perfumery in Paris. Immersed in the fugue state of perfume even while out playing in the fields, it’s no wonder that his imagination turned again and again to the stories told by the various fragrances, lotions, and creams that formed the backdrop to his existence. It was in this milieu, after all, that his creative spark was ignited, giving rise to his dream of being an artist. It was also here that he started his lifelong obsession with teasing out the mysterious chemistry that exists between human skin and fragrance.
The belief that a perfume is only brought to life when in contact with the skin forms the basis for his line of fragrances, called “Peau”, meaning "skin". With Peau de Nuit Infinie and Peau de Lumière Magique, Philippe Stark expands his fragrance line "Peau" in the direction of a new intensity and high-contrast drama. They represent, respectively, Starck’s olfactory vision of the night and the light.
