Diptyque - Orphéon
A nightclub in the Latin Quarter of Paris. Red velvet benches, a cocktail bar, a vaulted cellar. Dim light, fine tobacco smoke. Chatting, flirting, dancing, philosophizing - all night long: The Orphéon is a golden memory from the eventful early days of Diptyque.
The three Diptyque founders Yves Coueslant, Christiane Gautrot and Desmond Knox-Leet often visited the nightclub that was just next door. For the trio, the Orphéon was something like their creative living room, in which they could develop ideas, exchange thoughts and soak up inspiration.
The fragrance
With virtuoso olfactory brushstrokes, perfumer Olivier Pescheux explores the ambience of the former Parisian nightclub: With cedar wood, patchouli and vetiver he paints cocktail tables, armchairs, bar shelves and the wooden dance floor. Juniper evokes the drinks that were once served in the Orphéon, first of all: gin. A little tobacco smoke should not be missing, captured with tart mastic and galbanum accents, softened by fine honey and rockrose nuances.
Furthermore: the scent of the women! Embodied by floral or powdery notes: Ylang-Ylang from the Comoros, Chinese magnolia, Turkish Damascus rose, Sambac jasmine. Moreover: the men! A bit dandy and always in a flirtatious mood, smelling of musk or amber.
Also not to be forgotten: the lighting of the Orphéon! A dimmed, warm red that the perfumer makes shine with a Venezuelan tonka bean and benzoin from Laos. And finally: an overdose of Ambroxan! This note embodies the sweet intoxication - dangerless, but dizzying ...
