As children, Tiziana and I spent most of the hot, sunny days of the summer with our grandfather in the countryside. He filled our days with magical stories and taught us the wonders of the world. Our father Evelino would join us on little day outings, often on his sailboat, which was composed entirely of fragrant wood. Cheerful and bright-eyed, we would roam the seas on this boat and learn firsthand of the infinite beauty of our beloved Italy. Just a few kilometers away from our town lies an enchanted mountain, which plunges straight into the sea and offers a breathtaking sight: Monte Conero. The towering rocks and woods of the moutain are reflected in the crystal clear waters of one of the most beautiful bays in Italy. The limp waters of the bay are protected by two peaks, called the Two Sisters, who were said to have been thrown into the sea by vengeful gods.

We left in the middle of the night, accompanied by light breezes redolent with the herbal scent of the Mediterranean maquis, lifting our spirits as we set out. Our father sailed confidently and surely, using only the stars as navigation, while our grandfather Guglielmo drew our attention to the constellation of Orion and its mythical belt. Occasionally we saw fire on dry land, and beacons, alerting navigators like us to potential hazards at sea. Our hearts were filled, stretched, and gladdened by an explosion of fragrance coming from all around us - the herbal macquis, the sea water, the warm evening breeze, the fires on land, and of course, the very scent of the fragrant boat itself, built from old, solid wood.

Orion captures the distant echoes of these fragrant memories. It is a spicy, intense perfume, strong and yet delicate at the same time. The lively piquancy of the citrus bouquet tames the sweetness of the pineapple and the round, honeyed feel of the apple. All this leads to a brilliant maelstrom of spicy woods balanced with the macquis-like herbs of thyme and oregano. Incense lends a touch of bush fire to the fragrance, and cedar and oud the damp, intoxicating fragrance of the wood used to build our beloved boat. When you wear it, close your eyes and allow the warm summer breeze to caress your face and let your mind drift until you are joining us there, on a boat set off on a dreamlike journey toward infinity on a dark and silent sea.
