Paglieri 1876 - Agrigentum
Agrigentum pays tribute to Agrigento, in Sicily, the home to a marvelous ancient Roman ruin. The perfumer was also inspired by a colorful religious procession he happened to witness when he was there, which drew heavily on the traditional use of carved, colorful Sicilian carts to carry people and religious figurines through the streets.
The opening of this fragrance is explosively citrusy, playing on the famous tang and snap of Sicilian lemons, tangerines, and sultry orange blossom. The sweet almondy feel of the floral heart with its ylang ylang, jasmine, violet, and almond flower recalls the sticky sweetness of the traditional Sicilian marzipan sweets, which are molded to form the exact shape and color of fruits and vegetables. A dark, earthy patchouli and tonka blend in the base adds depth, while fruity blackcurrant and osmanthus contributes the aroma of a fruit jam with apricots and cassis.
