Ormonde Jayne - La Route de la Soie - Muscat
The delicious call of the Orient
Muscat is the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. Located on the sunny shores of the Gulf of Oman and surrounded by the rugged rocks of the Hajar Mountains, Muscat is a pearl of the Orient - an oasis in the Arabian desert sands.
The turbulent history of the Muscat region as a strategically important trading port goes back thousands of years. In addition to the picturesque harbor complex with large ships, small boats and airy sails and the monumental Sultan Qaboos Mosque, Muscat today also attracts visitors to the Mutrah Souk.
The large, traditional Arabic market is located in the heart of Muscat, not far from the lively promenade at the port. A stroll through the Mutrah Souk is a true feast for the senses. The most delicious scents are in the air everywhere: aromas of saffron and cardamom, incense and cinnamon, dates and cloves, sweet baked goods and sensual perfumes mingle to create a heavenly melange.
Carried out by a fresh sea breeze, they spread the joyful, fragrant call of the Orient through the streets of the city...
Inspired by the wonderful fragrances from the souks of the capital of Oman, Muscat ignites a real firework of oriental aromas. Fine notes of spices are in the air from the very first moment: saffron and cinnamon mingle with golden date oil. Notes of frankincense and roses rise. The noble oriental fragrance classic oud is delicately spiced and sweetened with vanilla, cardamom - and the sensual pleasures of the oriental sweet specialty halvah.
Perfume creator Linda Pilkington recommends, "wear Muscat with light silks as you make your way elusively through the medina, ball or soiree leaving behind an emotive sillage, both mysterious and enchanting.”
