Byredo Parfums - Bibliothèque
The beloved Byredo Bibliothèque candle was the inspiration for this incredible new eau de parfum from the Swedish niche house. Does it really smell like a library, we hear you ask? Yes, yes, it does - this is immediately apparent when you spray it on the skin, with sudden whorls of soft, papery vanilla and lignin gusting up into the air, recreating the smell of when you open a massive, dusty tome from another century in an old library.
There are sweet, soft fruit notes of peach and tangy plum too, melting together to give the impression of a light, tannic leather - the binding of these noble books that surround us. Turning the page, posies of forgotten flowers - dried peony and violets - fill the air with the sudden perfume of the fields and the forest, and we imagine the young girl who must have picked them and folded them into the pages of the book, perhaps a hundred years ago. The musk, vanilla, and patchouli in the base form a leathery accord that makes us think of book bindings, old leather armchairs, and an open, roaring fire. Peace and silence, woven into the fabric of one place - and now, one perfume. Bibliothèque is a perfume that encapsulates the calm of a secluded library, safe from the hustle and bustle of the modern world rushing past us.
