Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle - Vetiver Extraordinaire
Perfumer: Dominique Ropion
Frédéric Malle remembered a base made a of a few precious woods that Dominique Ropion composed when they were working together at Roure Bertrand Dupont, 16 years earlier.
While they were once again evaluating this idea, Dominique Ropion received - by chance - new extractions of vetiver (from Haïti & Java) achieved from a moleculary distillation technic by the Laboratoires Monique Rémy. Thanks to this new technique, these experimental vetiver essences had gotten rid off the parasites notes that existed until then by the extractions of this wood. This new essence allowed an overdosing of the vetiver note without giving the perfume an unpleasant «medical» character... the idea of Vetiver Extraordinaire was born!
THE FRAGRANCE
Vétiver Extraordinaire is a precious woods bouquet, faceted by musky, spicy, flowery and hesperidic notes. Highly unusual with its overdose of vetiver (about 25 percent - before, it was usual to use not more than eight percent), Vetiver Extraordinaire has sparked new enthusiasm for this classic men's fragrance category. Dominique Ropion introduces a new essence of vetiver, stripped of its bitter edge, which he matches with five woody notes to play up the scent's various facets. It took 569 tries and 16 months of effort to find the perfect balance. The result is something surprisingly delicious, fresh and crisp: Vetiver Extraordinaire!
