Jorum Studio - Spiritcask
Rather than focusing solely on the finished distillate, Spiritcask explores the whisky-making process as a whole, focusing on the oak casks in which the storied/legendary spirit is stored - capturing the process by which sympathetic aromatics (what was in the oak cask before? Sherry? Cognac? Rum?) seep out of the copper-fired vessels into the pipe-clean new bottling as they mature into something sweet, dark, rich and woody.
Jorum Studio's written description hints at the fragrance's delicate strength. As always, there is an emotional undercurrent:
In the custom house, the wistful spirit maker dips his head into the last empty barrel, where copper-fired sweet nothings whisper and swirl.
The extrait de parfum offers a spirited opening - the rush of pear-like new-make with dried fruits and velvety florals - that deepens into multi-faceted woods and leather with a rich caramel-coffee-vanilla sweetness. A pleasingly realistic oak barrel note is present throughout:
'We really wanted to capture the experience of sticking your head into an empty whisky cask - those complex residual scents are so captivating,' says in-house perfumer Euan McCall.
