Promise was inspired by the sacred value that perfume holds in the Middle East that began when the prophet Mohammed himself wore perfume, and saw perfuming oneself as integral to the cleaning ritual before prayer. Times of day in Arabic also hold both religious and symbolic meanings,ones that have informed many of the collection's names. The perfumes' authors are Dominique Ropion and Carlos Benaïm. Promise celebrates one of the strongest bonds in human relationships: keeping one's word. On his travels through out the Middle East, Frédéric Malle saw that a promise made between two people is accompanied by the strictest honor code. He identifies with this principle and all binding principles of the same kind, believing that keeping one's word,holding one self accountable to someone else, unites people around the world. This principle lies at the heart of Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle. Frédéric's promise to perfumers, to guide them through their creative process and help them reach the pinnacle of their ability and talent,is a promise that he has kept to this day. The perfumers' promise to produce their very best has also proved to be true.
THE FRAGRANCE
Frédéric Malle and Dominique Ropion crystalize this promise and the artistic standard it demands with two precious varieties of rose: Rose essence from Bulgaria and rose absolute from Turkey are lifted by apple, pink pepper and clove, and bound to a sensuous base of patchouli, cypriol and labdanum; an accord as unbreakable, and invisible, as a vow.
