Jorum Studio - Athenaeum
The smell of ink, paper and sunlight slanting through large windows onto heavy oak doors - a chance visit to an Edinburgh library and its distinctive smell of books, printer's ink and sunlit wood brought back memories of Euan McCall's childhood in the north of Scotland and sent him back in his mind to what had once been: reading under an old oak tree, surrounded by the smell of paper, ancient wood and summery in a vibrant nature. In Athenaeum, McCall unites the then with the now, creating the image of the library, intimately interwoven with the memory it evokes.
The fragrance:
Removed from time, the sounds of Athenaeum resurrect the flair of days gone by. Leaving the here and now behind, the comforting sounds of Scottish lavender unfold alongside beeswax and honey, fennel and the fruity notes of ripening apples. It is a consummate summer impression that Jorum Studio composes here, uniting with floral-citrusy neroli and hyacinth sounds to inspire reflection. Patchouli and leather, oak wood and ink form an energetic base and shape Athenaeum, the first perfume to use biodynamic perfume ingredients grown, harvested and distilled in Scotland.
