Gritti - White Kollektion - Dame de l'Île
Dame de l'Île, which translates to Lady of the Island, is named for Elizabeth Wethered Barringer, a woman of legendary charm and grace who was depicted by the Spanish painter Federico de Madrazo in the 19th century. Possessed of an otherworldly, almost angelic beauty, Elizabeth is once again paid tribute, but this time in the form of fragrance. A radiant, lively bergamot and lime opening mimics the expression of mischievousness that plays at the corners of the lady's eyes and mouth in the painting, while the voluptuous flounce of her pink satin scarf is portrayed with deep red roses and a sultry jasmine note that smells ripely purple. A dramatic, sultry amber kissed with creamy, animalic musks and vanilla creates an oriental backdrop to the flowers, mirroring the rather frank and knowing sensuality of the lady's gaze. Not a girl, therefore, but a full-grown woman, aware of her own power and worth.
