Diptyque - Vetyverio
The Eau de Parfum version of one of the most iconic vetiver fragrances in the world! Whereas the original EDT used both Java and Haitian vetiver essential oils, the new EDP focuses entirely on the deeper, earthier Haitian variant.
They call Diptyque's Vetyverio the golden-haired vetiver, because the precious essential oil used to create this scent was harvested on organic, fair-trade farms on Haiti, and is of such purity that Caribbean sunlight seems to be captured in the very molecules of this green-gold elixir. The vetiver essential oil, farmed in cooperation with Givaudan, has glints of gold running through it. What does the oil smell like? Astonishingly beautiful. It is earthy, smoky, rooty, nutty, and full to bursting with the fertile roundness of the volcanic earth from which the noble roots sprang.
The new Vetyverio EDP captures all the wondrous facets of this oil in an increased intensity and purity. Stronger and richer than the Eau de Toilette, the EDP focuses more on the deep green smokiness of Haitian vetiver, while also employing a sparkling golden warmth that captures the sunlit threads of gold running through the essential oil. Pink grapefruit, bergamot, lemon, and mandarin in the topnotes help accentuate the lemony freshness of true vetiver essential oil, while the florals in the heart of the fragrance - a lush Turkish rose chief among them - play up the more floral aspects of vetiver. There is warming spice, too, in the form of nutmeg, to provide that earthy, reddish warmth associated with vetiver.
As ever, Diptyque has placed a key raw material - here vetiver - at the center of the composition, but has used other notes to draw out the beauty of the material's different facets, in this case the floral, fresh-citrusy, and nutty-spicy elements of vetiver essential oil. It is truly one of the best vetiver fragrances in the world, and now Vetyverio gains a new, richer format in the guise of an EDP concentration. Bravo!
