A Colombian fragrance house that translates memory into perfume.
Nueva Granada was the historic territory that once included Colombia, Venezuela, Panama and Ecuador. Andean peaks, dense tropical forests, mineral rivers and one of the richest biodiversities on Earth. From the meeting of indigenous knowledge, colonial history and centuries of artistic and scientific exploration, a distinct cultural identity emerged. That world is the raw material of Mutis Nueva Granada.
The Namesake
José Celestino Mutis, the eighteenth-century botanist who led the Real Expedición Botánica, documented thousands of native species and left one of the greatest scientific legacies of Latin America. His blend of curiosity, precision and reverence for nature shapes every step of the creative process to this day.
The Founder
Behind the house stands Hanssen Díaz, Colombian creative director. He founded Mutis Nueva Granada as a tribute to the landscapes, legends and biodiversity of his homeland. The briefs draw on his own memory: the Catatumbo lightning over Lake Maracaibo, the endless banana plantations on the road to Santa Marta, his grandmother’s kitchen among the sugarcane fields, a mambo danced in front of the whole school. Each perfume is a chapter of a larger story, each journey leads to a real place laced with myth and personal recollection.
The Perfumers
Chris Maurice, Dominique Moellhausen, Luca Maffei and Manuel Attardi translate those memories into formulas. The compositions are built at 24 % fragrance concentration as extrait de parfum – a strength that gives the opulent raw materials room to breathe and carries the scent on the skin for Hours.
The Object
Embossed paper, matte and glossy surfaces, gold foil: the packaging is conceived as a design object and the unboxing as a ritual. From raw material to materials to graphics, every detail belongs to the same story.
