Rome on a morning in 1954: a faint strip of milky daylight falls through the half-closed curtains of the presidential suite of the Hotel Hassler and draws the eye to an intimate scenario surrounded by powdery aromas. Shimmering silk stockings and a delicate, carelessly dropped undergarment in front of the bed. Rumpled sheets framed by dark red traces of lipstick on the otherwise pristine white pillows and a tie knotted around the bedpost form a peculiar contrast to the sweet figs in a silver bowl on the bedside table. Pantomimes ACT 1 describes the intense atmosphere of a night whose echoes can be heard swinging back and forth between the walls.
