Imaginary Authors - The Soft Lawn
Claude LeCoq published his debut work, The Soft Lawn, in 1916 while pursuing his studies at Princeton University. The book is a controversial portrait of upper-class youthful resistance in New England. It centres on Hampton Perry, a charming and rebellious college tennis champion who must give back everything he has ever been presented with on a silver platter. A lesser known fact about the author: Claude LeCoq favoured seersucker suits, which were considered poor man's clothing at the time. His elegant appearance at high society dinners and high profile sporting events contributed to the popularity of the fabric among the rich in the 1920s.
