The love of the nymph Echo for Narcissus described in Ovid's Metamorphoses inspired Pantomime Pafüm to compose ACT 5. Echo's despair born of this unrequited love, which causes her to fade further and further away until finally only the resonance of her voice can be heard, also seals the fate of the beautiful Narcissus. After the constant rejection of all his admirers, he falls in love with his own reflection, cursed by Nemesis, and perishes from the agony of his unfulfillable love. Filled with the beauty and tragedy of this classic theme, ACT 5 unfolds its irresistible sound.
